Tonight, the students are starting to use the standard algorithm to divide fractions (keep the first fraction the same, change the operation to multiplication, the invert or flip the second fraction to its reciprocal; then multiply the fractions as normally would be done). Also, the classes had all weekend to work on the Problem Solver "Drinking Juice and Making Cookies". This is due in all classes, however, I am available for extra help after school on Thursday if a student is struggling to complete the Problem Solver. It will count for three grades: concepts, problem solving and written communication. The link to my wiki for both these assignments is:

We have started division of fraction and are using visuals and manipulatives to help the students understand the concept before the introduction of the traditional algorithm. For homework, they will continue to practice multiplying and simplifying fractions. Today's work includes multiplying by mixed numbers. The link to my wiki and the actual homework paper is:

We have started the next unit on dividing fractions with a review of simplifying fractions and multiplying (then simplifying) fractions). Tonights homework, for Periods B, E and F, is a short multiplication review. All answers must be simplified to lowest terms. Here is a link to the document on my wiki. I am going to put all the homework for this unit on one page so that you will not have to searh through the different pages to find the homework for the unit. they will be in numerical order, as listed on the homework page on my web site.
